Mei88 is a tribute to the skin: a very light "garment" characterized by a sensory emotion.
The request for a "Mei perfume" was so strong that it was necessary to create one that would fulfill the task of giving "olfactory well-being in social relationships". The research was long and complex, but the project was successful. The perfume "arrived" at the same time as the celebrations for the company´s twenty-five years of life, so it was baptized Mei88, in memory of Mei´s year of birth: 1988.
Perfume, as a product to "enrich" one´s social "aura", was born over 5000 years ago.
Already known in ancient Egypt, it spread to the Arabs, the Greeks and the Romans. It was made with the processing of resins, leaves and plants. The elements were oil-based, with the addition of vegetable aromas, because they also had to protect the skin from sun and wind.
In Europe, in the Middle Ages and also because of religious factors, the art of perfume lost its importance, whereas in the Arab world the production and the blends increased (in Persia, in the same period, was "invented" the rose perfume).
The seventeenth and eighteenth centuries saw the flourishing of the "culture" of perfume, with the birth of eau de Cologne, whereas in the nineteenth century, with colonialism and the great geographical discoveries, other aromas were introduced (for example, vanilla and ylang ylang).
The essences of a perfume are often represented by synthetic scented elements, called "odorous substances", "drowned" in alcohol, in order to have large quantities at very low prices: a perfume for everyone. This, however, gave birth to the "bad perfume": essences absolutely chemical, with strong connotations sometimes "stomach-churning" and with characteristics that can create damage to the skin. Nowadays, the majority of these perfumed elements are produced in large quantities, on a synthetic basis and, therefore, at reduced costs, but with heavy side effects: hypersensitivity, allergies, erythema, skin spots, itchiness, etc.
A perfumer technician told me that, for the composition of a perfume, "are mixed together from 30 to 80 perfumed elements, chosen between, about, 200 essences and, almost, 2000 existing synthetic elements. Besides alcohol".
La Mei wanted to celebrate its twenty-fifth year of life, creating a very special perfume.
She had, of course, to "accept" the presence of alcohol (indispensable, to fix the perfume on the skin), but she chose all the other elements from her own essential oils, absolutely natural. So, the result was fantastic. Mei88 has a fresh, floral and woody accord, created with different fragrance notes. The "top note", emotional, is perceived immediately after application on the skin; it is rightly intense, because it is the presentation of the bouquet: the lemon, tangerine and green leaf. The "heart note", taking over from the "top note", rekindles the olfactory emotion and "matures" a feeling with the skin, so as to keep it pleasantly "on", thanks to the presence of sea lily, helichrysum and jasmine.
But the real strength is the "base note", characterized by a pleasant persistence that transmits confidence, given by marine cistus, cedar and Mediterranean scrub. Mei88, however, exalts itself in the harmony of all its components, because, even in the maturation of the notes, it never lets one soul predominate over another. It is the coordinated perfection of the ingredients which raises its potential of "olfactory reception": a "functional perfume" for wellbeing because, by giving security in contact with others, it strengthens the balance of social interchange.
Mei88 lights up only the positive "thresholds", making itself known for its elegant intensity which, depending on the type of skin and the time of day, can be almost imperceptible or a convincing definition of a strong personality.
Mei88 is Mei´s latest creation and has required a long study, because the olfactory amalgam that personalizes the product has been desired for everyone, because for everyone it will be a "travelling companion among others".
