The Persian Rose

08/02/2022

In the RoseMei line, the three phases of extraction of rose essential oil find their maximum expression, now also in the new 50ml cream format.

It is a primitive rose, one of the oldest, that nature has selected for its strength of survival and adaptability, it is no coincidence that it is still used as a matrix to make hybrids robust to all climatic conditions. European gardeners immediately fell in love with it for the peculiarity of its flower, its color and above all for its heady scent, with a spicy scent, which clearly recalls the oriental atmospheres. The first painter to paint it was the French Pierre-Joseph Redoutè to whom, afterwards, it was even named a type which would leave the name of the artist in imperishable memory. The Persian rose has small and dark leaves, thin branches and messy stems covered with small thorns. At first glance it might almost look like cistus, but then, upon closer inspection, the rose´s habit is immediately apparent. The flowers are light, have a dark spot in the center and jagged edges.

It was in the wastelands of these remote areas that Mei went looking for the original Persian roses to capture the goodness of the scent and the ability to make the skin more beautiful, radiant and elastic. Its properties have been known since ancient times and its use in cosmetics dates back to Mesopotamian times, but it was then Egypt, the true cradle of personal care and beauty, that discovered all the secrets collected in the formulas of rose water, perfume and ointment, today kept in the museum of Alexandria.

How to express all the strength of this plant in a modern cosmetic?

This is the challenge taken up by the RoseMei line, strongly desired to exalt the three stages of rose petal processing. Once hand-picked, the petals are dried in their area of origin, according to the age-old oriental tradition, then shipped to Italy and treated in Mei´s laboratories with techniques suited to the exceptional nature of the raw plant material.

The first process is that of the so-called perfumed water: a cold extraction, using water vitalized with the Grander method, from which a fresh and delicate rose water is obtained. Once enhanced with Aloe Barbadensis Miller pulp gel, it becomes the RoseMei tonic, to be sprayed on the face to refresh, remove redness and exert an astringent action on facial skin pores.

The second stage of processing is the ultrasonic concentration, without chemical solvents and thermal shock, from which we obtain the extract of rose petals, with the typical color of their pigment, with valuable antioxidant properties, which is the main ingredient of Rose- Mei Scrub: a product whose formula has just been revised and improved to increase its delicacy, but without losing effectiveness. The scrub is based on the properties of Italian sea salt crystals and on the ionic action of sea oil: a very particular ingredient, fruit of Mei´s wise research, which is formed by a natural process during the transformation of sea water into salt, during which this organic substance with an oily consistency and dark color, rich in Potassium, Vitamin K and Magnesium, is formed. The sea oil, which tends to emerge on the surface of the product, makes RoseMei Scrub effective for cleaning the skin, but also nourishing and regenerating. Given the richness of the formula, it is appropriate to use it in the right way: moisten the skin (not the product!) then massage very gently in a circular motion, leave on for at least two minutes (not less) and then rinse vigorously with cold water.

The soul of the Persian rosebud is sublimated in the true and pure essential oil, which is not commonly found on the market, often being replaced with synthetic perfumes or other vegetable derivatives with a vaguely similar fragrance. This absolute essential oil is called "concreta" of Persian rose and is a true pride of Mei´s production, obtained with an innovative extraction technique called "flavouring" (from the English "to make a fragrance") which concentrates all the parts of the plant, exalting the primitive strength of the plant. A process which has surpassed the techniques of distillation and which concentrates only the best of the flower without alcohol and synthetic solvents. The "concrete" of Persian rose is released in all its enveloping presence in the RoseMei cream, enhanced by the pulp of Aloe Vera Barbadensis Miller. A cream that has the power to compact the skin, to give brightness without greasing and to inebriate with its scent, the right ally of the delicate but strong woman, just like the Persian rose.
